Syrian Orphans Emergency Zakat Appeal – June 12

Message from Islamic Centre of Oshawa:
Asalamualaykum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatooh:

The Islamic Centre of Oshawa, in conjunction with Islamic Relief Canada, is proud to host one of the most dynamic, sought after speakers in the world. An annual speaker at the Reviving the Islamic Spirit Conference – RIS, Shaykh Sulaiman Moola will be speaking to our congregation about the desperate need to support the orphaned children of Syria.

The Syrian conflict has now entered it’s fifth year (it began in March 2011). The situation is disastrous as entire towns and neighborhoods have been decimated or isolated, and many Syrians have been living in daily turmoil.
  • More than 4 million Syrian refugees are scattered throughout 5 neighbouring countries.
  • 6.5 million children have been affected by the crisis with more than half of Syrian children no longer attending school.
  • More than 12 million people inside Syria are in need of humanitarian aid.
THE NEED IS DIRE…. AND THE NEED IS NOW…

Sahl ibn Sa’d reported: The Prophet, peace and blessing be upon him, said, “The one who cares for an orphan and myself will be together in Paradise like this,” and he held his two fingers together to illustrate.

A Brief Biography of Marmaduke Pickthall

The British revert, Western Islamic scholar, known for his translation of the Holy Qur’an, The Meaning of the Glorious Koran: An Explanatory Translation. The best English translation before Abdullah Yusuf Ali’s most widely known Translation and Commentary of the Holy Qur’an. An extensive traveler, and staunch defender of the Ottoman Empire, his biography is a story of a Westerner who falls in love with the Islamic society and the Qur’an. A snippet from the the Masud UK.

“Throughout his life Pickthall saw Islam as radical freedom, a freedom from the encroachments of the State as much as from the claws of the ego. It also offered freedom from narrow fanaticism and sectarian bigotry. Late Ottoman Palestine was teeming with missionaries of every Christian sect, each convinced, in those pre-ecumenical days, of its own solitary rightness. He was appalled by the hate-filled rivalry of the sects, which, he thought, should at least be united in the land holy to their faith. But Christian Jerusalem was a maze of rival shrines and liturgies, where punches were frequently thrown in churches, while the Jerusalem of Islam was gloriously united under the Dome, the physical crown of the city, and of her complex history.” READ MORE.
